Sakura Matou Mouse TF by Kathalia Sakura Matou Mouse TF by Kathalia
Rounding out the Fate heroines is Sakura Matou.  Sakura is probably my least favourite of the Fate cast for some reason and Heaven's Feel is just a downer all around.  She's a little better in Hollow Ataraxia.  I think that a mouse works well for her though and think that the picture turned out pretty well.  I've been wanted to draw some shrinking effects for a while now and this was a good excuse to do that.

To me this would be your worst piece of the last year. The biggest reason this piece doesn't work for me is that most of the piece is taken up by her oversized clothes; while not uncommon for a shrinking TF piece in this case the clothes just don't look right. They appear flat and without logic. There is almost no indication of the forms below the clothes and how that form shapes the clothes as they engulf her shrinking body. The vest shows no folds at all, which makes it look flat. The skirt does has folds, but these folds are so random that they don't really convey any information to the viewer about how the clothes fall down and the skirt ends up looking like a weird blob of clay. The sleeves of her shirt seem very inconsistent in that her right sleeve looks very baggy, while her left sleeve does not. When drawing baggy clothes onto a shrinking subject it's very important to draw a solid foundation of the form beneath the clothes to have a base from where to design your folds and the way your clothes fall.

Here's the link to a tutorial which explains very well how to draw your clothes around the underlying forms and how to use folds to convey information: youtu.be/5dpD8mDH1Pk

Apart from the clothes I feel like the anatomy that is shown is a bit off as well. Her hands look very rounded, like balls, which is not really what mouse paws look like: hookelabs.com/services/cro/cia…

Also I feel like the front view is a very poor way to show a mouse transformation, since a lot of the facial transformation and the growing of a snout is lost by this angle. You can still have her body facing forward, but in this case I'd really recommend having her head turned to highlight those changes.

I hope these criticisms don't discourage you; I know this critique showcases a lot of negativity, but I hope you'll be able to not take this personally and incorporate these tips into your future drawings!

I am!  Right now, I'm working on a lot of commissions and other long term projects, so I'm uploading my backlog that I sketched over the summer that I've finished colouring.  There are a few more in the Monster Musume series that I'll post as soon as I'm satisfied with the results.  Until then, a few other odds and ends!
